Why are hens in cages?

Not so long ago, there was no such thing as a battery cage for chickens. What happened is that there were so many people wanting so many eggs that little grassy farms like the ones you've probably seen in storybooks just couldn't produce enough eggs to keep up. So farms started putting more and more chickens into smaller and smaller spaces, so that they could get more and more eggs.

Sadly, today millions of chickens in Australia live in places just like the one in the picture. Just so that people can buy cage eggs :(

But does it have to be like this? No way! You can help stop this cruelty and free chickens from cages. How?

Never buy cage eggs!

If no one buys cage eggs, then no hen has to live in a cage. Problem solved! So make sure to ask your parents and friends not to buy cage eggs too!
